Creative Director / Animator / Designer / XR Specialist
Hello, I am Blair Burke, an independent creative director from Melbourne, Australia. For almost 15 years, I have travelled across Australia and abroad to work with the best creative studios within Film, Television, Advertising, Gaming and Technology.
I have animated on some of the most watched films of the past few years. I have designed interfaces used by millions of people for world leading brands. I’ve worked on innovative interactive location based experiences with world leading museums and my work has been awarded by industry peers for its quality and innovation.
I try to work at the intersection of technology, imagination and design. I know how to take creative ideas from illustrations, to digital creations. Strategically direct and evolve the ideas through development and design to their introduction into the world.
Previous projects have included, creating character animation on the 2017 Academy Award Winner for Best Visual Effects, “THE JUNGLE BOOK” (2016), as well as animation on the blockbuster films “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY” (2014), “THE LEGO MOVIE” (2014) and Steven Spielberg’s “THE BFG” (2016). Launching new technology with Sir Peter Jackson and Apple, trying to heal the world with David Attenborough and Netflix and bringing awareness to endangered species with leading artists.
Animation has always been a part of my life. It began with being obsessed with Ninja Turtles and grew into a addiction to The Simpsons. High school is where my interest really took over with the likes of Monsters Inc, Shrek and Star Wars becoming life goals. I would turn my class projects into animated films using Lego figures as I didn’t have any actors who wanted a staring role. I then took these passions into my further education, completing a Bachelor of Multimedia and Digital Arts at Monash University and a Diploma of Advanced Character Animation Studies at AnimationMentor.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people at Weta Digital, Framestore, Animal Logic, Art Processors, Phoria and Clemenger BBDO. My passion to push my work has taken me around the world and allowed me to work with some of the most creative minds in various industries. None of the work in my folio has been completed alone. I think the best work is done in collaboration, whether its teams of 3 people or a 1000. I enjoy work most, when I can collaborate with experienced, talented people. Being able to review, discuss and refine as we create together, as we focus on the same goal is the best way, to create something incredible. I am very fortunate to have worked with such great talent over the years.
This means I have a large network of talented creators I can connect with to create any project.
Outside of animating, I spend my free time designing, creating games, drawing and creating films. I experiment with new technology and am trying to make the likes of Avatar 2 in my garage. I love pretty much everything about film and animation and am always looking for new opportunities and challenges. In more recent times, I am getting up to speed of being a father and raising a beautiful daughter.
I’m always trying to create exciting and meaningful experiences, whether digital or non-digital. I’m in constant pursuit of good work thats going to engage me creatively and technically. I am trying to work out how modern technology can create new and amazing story experiences that can change the world.
I love creative discussions. Contact me to get help with your next project or to discuss one of mine you’re interested in. I have a large archive of digital work that might be relevant to your production.
