Hoyts Cinema

HOYTS Cinema is one of the largest cinema chains in Australia and New Zealand. Hoyts operates multiplex cinemas that show a range of movies, including Hollywood blockbusters, independent films, and foreign language movies.

Hoyts with their creative agency partners created some commercials to act as a reminder to the public that you’ll see more on the big cinema screen at Hoyts than you do watching a movie on your phone or at home. This collection of commercials featured a tiny sliver of an impressive film scene, lauding to a much grander and incredible world out of frame. These images were accompanied by humorous voiceovers about how much more you’d see at a Hoyts.

Thanks to Mofa.tv, I got the chance to create and direct the animation spot in the collection. This commercial, its character and beautiful world was all conceptualised, art directed and created by me. Created using Maya, Zbrush, Substance, Arnold and Unreal, this commercial was a fun opportunity to lean into my wide knowledge base and skill sets. The whole thing was animated fully and its such a pity we had to crop it all so harshly…. But that was the point all along.
